Watch the small leaks
A dripping tap wastes up to 30 litres a day and usually signals a worn washer that costs pennies. Check under the sink once a month: if you notice damp around the trap or the flexible hoses, call before the cabinet swells. Replacing a washer in time saves replacing an entire kitchen unit.
